Valdosta State University, located in beautiful Valdosta, Georgia, is searching for 1 (one) qualified, enthusiastic and motivated candidates for Graduate Assistants for Athletic Communications to begin August, 2025.
The graduate assistant will have the opportunity to work with all 12 of VSU’s highly competitive NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs. The Blazers have won nine national championships, including four in football and eight total titles since 2000.
Responsibilities:
Serve as communications contact for multiple sports throughout the 2025-26 season and then the 2026-27 season to complete the two-year commitment.
Tasks include, but not limited to: strong working knowledge of NCAA Live Stats (Genius) and Statcrew; writing press releases, game notes and feature stories; updating and maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story ideals to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as needed.
Managing the press box/scorer’s table for home events for assigned sports, including overseeing the game day staff.
Performing assorted game day duties, such as public address announcing and scoreboard operation, as needed.
Assist with video production and editing, including recording video segments and game day highlights, feature interviews with student-athletes and coaches
Assist with all social media for the athletic department (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) with the creation of content, including graphics and video.
Reporting scores and results to the Gulf South Conference and the NCAA.
Other duties as assigned.
Appointment contingent on candidate being accepted to the VSU Graduate School in the program of the applicant’s choosing. All graduate assistantships are renewable for two consecutive years (two years total). The two-year appointment is contingent upon successful completion of GA duties and responsibilities which includes maintaining a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of assistantship and maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. The candidate appointed to the position will receive a yearly stipend and a tuition waiver. This person must be willing and able to work daily office hours, nights, and weekends throughout the academic school year including vacation periods. Some travel may be required in these positions. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license.
