Position Summary: The Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Media Relations is responsible for providing up to date and relevant information to the conference and national offices, opponents, public, and news outlets in regards to the athletics department.

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred fields of study: Athletic Administration, Journalism, and/or Communication)

Experience Required: Minimum of two years’ experience in writing, statistics and sports marketing 

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position:

•  Ability to administer components of sports information work (i.e. statistics, news media, web site, publications) with good knowledge of computer systems;
• Ability to train student workers to aid in meeting athletic communication needs and to mentor student workers and interns;
• Ability to speak and write appropriately and develop marketing strategies to reach regional and national media and supporters;
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees).

Special Working Conditions: Required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Primary Duties:

1. Respond to media requests from the conference, NCAA, opponents, and local/national news outlets.
2. Design, create and coordinate production of publications, including seasonal schedules, game programs, and NCAA programs.
3. Develop and coordinate marketing and promotional opportunities with the Director of Athletics.
4. Place newsworthy events with campus, hometown, local, and national media; Prepare special interest stories and press releases.
5. Manage the department web site and other Social Media Outlets.
6. Schedule and oversee the work of student assistants, interns and game day personnel.
7. Supervise statistics at contests and keep season statistics updated.
8. Oversee the reporting of scores and other results to appropriate media after contests; Provide post game wrap-ups.
9. Submit candidates for sport-specific and academic awards.
10. Maintain up to date sport team rosters.
11. Coordinate media days for all sport programs.
12. Lead the planning and execution of the yearly athletic department awards show.
13. Maintain fiscal responsibility with budget.
14. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Secondary Duties:

1. Arrange for photography of all sports programs and special events.
2. Serve as Sport Administrator as designated by the Director of Athletics.
3. Maintain sports information files.
4. Serve on appropriate department and campus wide committees.
5. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
