South Dakota Mines is seeking a dynamic, creative, and organized Assistant AD for Athletic Communications to lead efforts in promoting our NCAA Division II athletic programs. This is a full-time, benefited position. The position manages all facets of communications, including media relations, digital content, statistical reporting, and historical archiving for all South Dakota Mines Hardrocker Athletics.
Key Responsibilities:
· Oversee athletic communications, including game-day operations (stats, social media updates, photography).
· Write game recaps, previews, features, and press materials.
· Create engaging digital content (graphics, video) for social platforms. · Supervise two part-time employee and student workers.
· Coordinate interviews and support media and broadcast operations.
· Maintain records and archives for all teams.
· Maintain our athletics website.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 2+ years in a collegiate or professional sports information setting.
· Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
· Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred:
· Master’s degree in a related field.
· 2–4 years of experience in athletic communications.
· Proficiency in AP style and multimedia content production.
· Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro).
· Experience with StatCrew, NCAA Live Stats/Genius, SIDEARM CMS, Social Media Platform Management (Meltwater), and social media strategy.
