Northern State University is in search of a pair of graduate assistants for the 2025-26 academic year in the areas of Athletic Communications and Video Production/Multimedia. The successful candidate(s) will assist with the day-to-day operations and functions of the NSU Athletic Communications office.
Position 1 - Traditional Athletic Communications
The candidate will be the primary media contact for soccer, women's swimming, women's basketball, and baseball and will assist with the promotion of all 15 varsity sports at the NCAA Division II level at Northern State. Duties include but are not limited to social media posts for assigned teams, press releases including preview stories and game recaps, set-up and tear down of assigned game days, statistic keeping for assigned game days, website maintenance, and graphic design.
Position 2 - Video Production & Multimedia
The candidate will be the secondary media contact for cross country and track and field and will assist with the promotion of all 15 varsity sports at the NCAA Division II level at Northern State. Responsible for in-game video presences including webcast, video board implementation, game highlights/interviews. Daily website updates, maintenance and management throughout the week. The candidate will be responsible to perform pre and post-game duties, use of social media, graphic design work, oversight of athletic webcasts, and other duties as assigned.
Graduate assistantships may be awarded only to students who: meet academic qualifications, apply and are admitted into one ofthe master’s degree programs at Northern State University (Grad Studies Program Listing), will live in the Aberdeen area and work on campus, and submit an application for a Graduate Assistantship.
Northern State University’s athletic teams boast a long and proud tradition of competition in the Upper Midwest. Football began in 1903 and men’s basketball in 1902. The Wolves have garnered national attention throughout the years, including five individual national champions, two national championship teams and numerous All-American athletes. Northern State University sponsors 15 intercollegiate sports participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) at the NCAA Division II level; seven for men and eight for women. The sports include men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s soccer, women’s fastpitch softball, women’s swimming, volleyball, baseball, football, and wrestling. The Aberdeen community and surrounding areas love and support athletics. NSU consistently leads the conference in attendance at football and both men’s and women’s basketball games. The NSU men’s and women’s basketball teams are mainstays in the Division II Top 10 attendance list, and have led the nation in attendance for nearly a decade.
