The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications is a benefits-eligible, year-round, full-time position within the Advancement Division’s College Marketing and Communication team. The assistant director reports to, and works collaboratively with, the sports information director to promote Kalamazoo College’s 18 men’s and women’s intercollegiate varsity teams. This includes serving as official statistician at various events, creating content for print, web and social media, writing game recaps and news releases and updating the Hornet Athletics website.
Responsibilities
This position involves all aspects of sports information and athletic communications, including but not limited to:
Serving as the primary sports information contact for several sports
Managing statistics as official statistician at various sporting events, utilizing NCAA LiveStats (Genius) and/or PrestoStats
Writing and publishing game recaps and other news releases
Maintaining the athletics photo library
Maintaining and updating the athletics web site (hornets.kzoo.edu) on Sidearm CMS
Creating and posting content to social media accounts
Assist in overseeing live video streaming
Editing and printing game programs
Opportunities also exist to gain experience in audio broadcasting and photography, but are not required. Other duties may include historical research, publishing feature stories (video and/or written), etc.
Qualifications
Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends (required)
Ability to work with and troubleshoot various technologies (required)
Previous experience working in a college sports information office is strongly preferred
Experience scoring games with StatCrew, PrestoStats, NCAA LiveStats (Genius) is strongly preferred
Strong writing ability, particularly in AP style, is strongly preferred
Strong ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Experience with Photoshop/InDesign is preferred
Experience with Sidearm, Presto, or similar content management system is desired
