The Director of Athletics Communications leads and supports all persons in the athletics communications department, including associate and assistant directors, coaches, graduate assistants, student assistants, and/or interns. The position responsibilities include the production of publications, programs, news releases, etc.; work closely with external staff to be supportive of revenue generation and marketing efforts; supports all aspects of EKU and ASUN digital and/or television broadcasts; focus on growing local and regional media relations; work with creative content team to expand coverage of teams, student-athletes, and staff to tell engaging and informative stories of individuals or teams; continuously work with compliance on any new or relevant NIL opportunities and be able to expand opportunities for student-athletes to engage in athletics communications process; provide and oversee coverage of events that includes full and part – time staff, interns, game day staff, student workers, etc.; work closely with University communications and brand management to create synergy between departments; supervise and grow social media presence; and maintain and bolster the EKU athletics department website. The Director will research and implement new or effective trends within the industry and manage strategic communications efforts for the department as well. This position will serve as the primary contact for football and one/two other sports.
The Director of Athletics Communications reports directly to the Director of Athletics and Senior Associate AD for External Engagement and manages all facets of positively publicizing and promoting EKU’s intercollegiate sports programs.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
3 years of related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with football as a primary or secondary contact
Experience overseeing social media efforts for department and individual sports
Proficiency of skills in Adobe Creative Suite or similar platforms, website management, and photography/creative content
Experience in marketing and growing media relations
