POSITION: Research Intern, Business Title: Athletic Communications and Sports Information Specialist, 100%, Employee-in-Training, 12-month Appointment – 2 year grant, 1 vacancy
DUTIES:
As part of the Athletics Communications staff, the position will have primary oversight of the departments sports information functions and assist with the department’s communications, marketing and branding in the manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Athletic Department.
NCAA 15.4.5 Athletic Staff Involvement. Members of the athletic staff of a member institution shall not be permitted to arrange or modify the financial aid package (as assembled by the financial aid officer or financial aid committee) and are prohibited from serving as members of a member institutions financial aid committees and from being involved in any manner in the review of the institutional financial assistance to be awarded to a student-athlete.
As an athletics department staff member, it is impermissible to discuss specifics concerning a student/athletes financial aid package with any individuals or departments (e.g., financial aid, admissions) involved in determining the financial aid awards for students.
NCAA 11.2.1 Stipulation That NCAA Enforcement Provisions Apply. Contractual agreements or appointments between a coach and an institution shall include the stipulation that a coach who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or correction action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.
A research intern is an individual who typically is continuing training after receipt of a bachelors, masters, or equivalent. A research intern appointment is normally for a two- or three-year term. These individuals have been engaged in an area of research, service, or the like, and are pursuing additional training in their areas of expertise or a related field. Payments made to research interns are fully taxable as wages, and taxes will be withheld from monthly paychecks.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
One or more years of experience working in collegiate athletics.
This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
Experience in athletic communications leading sports information.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Supervisory/management experience
