Position Summary
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for the development and management of individual and group strength training programs for men and women student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program with the goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
This position is primarily responsible to:
Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
Enable each student-athlete to perform to their physical potential in their sport through development and management of individual, group, and team training programs.
Develop programs by evaluating current physical conditioning, having a knowledge of the various sports and associated exercises, tailoring strength programs for specific needs, and demonstrating proper performance of exercises, and correcting mistakes.
Manage programs by monitoring progress and providing an assessment of development.
Reduce the likelihood of sport-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warmups, working with athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests.
Support an environment consistent with the values of Taylor University and the Athletic Department that enables achievement of quality, competitive intercollegiate athletic programs, and supports the educational goals of individual student-athletes.
Represent Taylor University and the intercollegiate athletic programs to various institutional programs and external professional events, as appropriate.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, or related field.
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), required.
At least two years of experience in progressively responsible positions involving the development and management of sport-specific individual, group, and team strength training programs for men and women, preferred.
Experience with development and management of strength training programs with collegiate or professional athletes, preferred.
Experience competing as a student-athlete, preferred not required.

Demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by student athletes.

Ability to interact positively with student athletes and colleagues.
Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.

Work environment is varied, and locations may include a typical interior / office work environment, locker room, weight room, practice field, and gym.
Environment may have various degrees of noise and temperature.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
