The Oklahoma City University (OCU) Department of Athletics invites applications in a national search for the position of Director of Athletics Communications. This full-time position is responsible for the day-to-day athletics communications of the department and supervision of assigned staff. The successful candidate will perform these duties while helping the athletics department: 1) create an atmosphere where graduation is facilitated through participation in intercollegiate athletics, 2) teach student-athletes to be productive citizens who contribute to society for life, and 3) win championships. More specifically, the position is responsible for maintaining good relationships with news media, increase news media coverage of OCU athletics, managing the athletics department website, writing press releases and stories, coordinating interviews with the media, overseeing all social media accounts associated with OCU athletics, coordinating competition statistics, coordinating graphics, photography and video content, and producing web streams of competitions. The position may also assist with writing and executing game scripts, assist with community engagement activities, and assist with the coordination of special events. The individual may also serve on the senior staff. The individual must have an athletics philosophy that values the educational and personal well-being of student-athletes while emphasizing the university and athletics department mission, vision, core values and culture.

This is a full-time position with a full benefits package. Full-time benefits include tuition remission, health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement and tax savings plans. Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in athletics media relations or a related field. A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.
Knowledge of NAIA rules or the ability to learn them
Knowledge of rules, scoring procedures, statistics procedures and ability to enter game statistics during competitions in applicable scoring software for a variety of sports
Ability to effectively utilize appropriate industry standard software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Production Truck, various statistical software applications, and all necessary Microsoft Office applications)
Knowledge of and ability to execute web streaming, podcasts, radio and television sports productions
Strong public relations, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to operate public address, statistics, website, publishing, video and scoreboard systems
Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the big picture
Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize workload and meet short-term deadlines on a regular basis
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with media members, sponsors, students, faculty, staff, donors and the general public
Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Ability to operate a computer, printer, applicable software and multi-function office machine (copy, scan, fax, print)
Ability to supervise assigned staff
