The Senior Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications is a highly seasoned, senior level professional who serves as an integral part of the External Strategy department for the Atlantic Coast Conference.
This position will manage the strategic and proactive communications initiatives that place the ACC, its members institutions, and its 28 sponsored sports at the forefront of intercollegiate athletics.
Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner/Chief of External Strategy, the Senior Associate Commissioner for Strategic Communications will manage the communications staff (four direct reports), the overall media operations for the conference’s 28 sponsored sports and the day-to-day communications aspects of ACC football and other sports as assigned.
The Senior Associate Commissioner will handle the communications and media responsibilities of the annual ACC Football Kickoff and ACC Football Championship Game. In addition, will provide oversight of the ACC Tipoff, ACC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments and the league’s 23 Olympic Sport Championships.
The Senior Associate Commissioner will build, develop and maintain relationships with local, regional and national broadcast, print and digital contacts that cover collegiate athletics to maximize exposure and accuracy, and facilitate proactive communications. This position will proactively approach the 24-hour media/news cycle with appropriate messaging initiatives; foster relationships with television producers and talent for ACC Football and ACC Basketball and communicate information to enhance the perception of the ACC, its member institutions and sponsored sports.
The Senior Associate Commissioner will serve as a liaison with ACC Network and ACC SiriusXM, specifically facilitating the relationship and communication of league office concerns and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day communications aspects of ACC Football and other sports as assigned.
Oversee the editorial content, including stats, standings, schedules, etc., on theACC.com.
Present annual communications updates during coaches’ and committee meetings and/or teleconferences for all designated sports.
Collaborate with the Deputy Commissioner/Chief of External Strategy, Associate Commissioner/Content Strategy and Associate Commissioner/Creative Strategy to maximize the league’s brand strategically and effectively.
Oversee all publications managed by the Strategic Communications Department (media guides, annual report, etc.).
Facilitate effective relationships with respective internal sport administrators to ensure the department is providing the appropriate support to all ACC sponsored sports, championships and events.
Assist the External Strategy Department efforts with social media including, but not limited to, content creation, messaging and execution.
Coordinate the league process for selecting ACC Scholar-Athletes of the Year and All-ACC Academic Teams.
Serve as the conference office liaison with the ACC Communications Directors.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner/Chief of External Strategy.

Education Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or professional certification in Communications or related field.
Minimum of eight (8) years in related professional work experience or the equivalent of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
Previous experience and knowledge of college athletics strongly preferred.
Problem solving, critical thinking and excellent time management skills are required.
Willing to travel to institutions, events, and meetings as required, locally and nationally.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Must pass pre-employment screens.

Work Environment:
This position typically operates in an office setting but also at indoor and outdoor venues including stadiums, arenas, and fields. Additionally, please note the following:
Ability to remain sitting for up to 8 hours at a desk or computer.
Ability to remain standing/walking for up to 4 hours.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25lbs. of equipment.
Due to the nature of the ACC’s business, travel will occur to multiple sites as dictated by major and minor event schedules.
Due to the nature of events indoors and outdoors, you must be able to endure varying weather conditions including wind, rain, and high and low temperatures.
Understanding that due to the nature of our business working hours can include nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.
