Position Overview: The Graduate Assistant SID will aid in developing, planning, and implementing the Athletic Communications office. The GA SID will be the primary media contact for selected sports and serve as a secondary contact for all other sports. The GA SID will assist the SID in all aspects of the office on a day-to-day basis. The position also requires event game management, statistics compilation, photography, and other duties as assigned. Night and weekend work is required for home athletics events. Travel (with teams) to select events as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Provide media with information promoting Concordia University athletic teams and student-athletes (game notes, web previews, targeted pitches to media, etc)
Provide rosters, statistics, and other information to opponents, media representatives, publications, NSIC, and NCAA- Publicize and communicate strategies designed to enhance the visibility and image of the athletic department
Serve as a liaison between media and student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff, the NSIC, and NCAA- Cultivate and maintain strong media contacts
Publicize community relation activities of the athletic department
Produce and distribute press releases on assigned sports to various media outlets
Produce game programs for assigned sports, as well as other Athletic Department publications as assigned
Aid in the maintenance of the athletic department website including assigned sports records and athlete bios
Travel to select away athletic events as necessary, notably NSIC/NCAA Tournaments
Photo management: ensure proper student-athlete action photography of assigned sports, with emphasis on images appearing in athlete bios on the website
Education & Experience:
Must be accepted into a CSP Master's Program
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, sport management, or a related field
One full year of experience in a sports information/athletic communications (or related) department, multiple years preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
Experience in desktop publishing, InDesign, Photoshop, NCAA LiveStats (and/or Stat Crew) software, website maintenance, and photography. Video editing is a plus.
Experience dealing with print, radio, and television media
