The University of West Florida, located in beautiful Pensacola, Florida, is searching for two (2) qualified, enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the positions of Graduate Assistant for Athletic Communications.
The graduate assistant will have the opportunity to build a significant digital and printed professional portfolio. The UWF athletic communication office's content annually receives more than 10 million views over the air and across the web and social outlets, while offering the staff significant experience with print, video and social media platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a communications contact for multiple sports (possibly to include a combination of women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, women’s swimming & diving, men’s basketball, men’s & women’s tennis) with tasks including, but not limited to: writing press releases, game notes and feature stories; updating and maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story ideas to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as needed.
- Managing the press box/scorer’s table at home events, including overseeing the game day staff.
- Performing assorted game day duties, such as public address announcing and scoreboard operation, as needed.
- Assist with Video Production and Editing, including: recording video segments and game day highlights, feature interviews with student-athletes and coaches.
- Assist Social Media Coordinator (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) with the creation of content, including graphics and video, for primary sports with an emphasis on creative story telling.
- Reporting scores and results to the Gulf South Conference, NCAA, coaches associations and other organizations.
- Nominating coaches and student-athletes for various awards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Graduate assistants will receive full tuition and fees and a 10-month stipend (includes matriculation waiver and out-of-state tuition where applicable). Graduate assistants must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the assistantship to maintain financial package. Refer to the UWF Graduate Program for more information on graduate study.

Qualifications/Preferred Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, sports management or related field
- Acceptance into one of UWF’s graduate programs, found here.
- At least one year of working experience in the college or professional sports communications fields
- Strong organization skills
- Strong journalistic writing ability and knowledge of AP style.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and InDesign.
- Basic photography and video editing skills.
- Basic understanding of NCAA LiveStats (Genius Sports) software.
- Capacity to juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously in deadline-driven environment.
- Working knowledge of collegiate athletics and gameday/sport event environments.
- Ability to work weekdays and nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
