Elmhurst University is seeking a graduate assistant to work in conjunction with the Director of Athletic Communications. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in the intercollegiate sports industry while assisting Elmhurst Athletics in growing its brand and telling the stories of its student-athletes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing game preview and recap stories, posting on social media pages, updating statistics in conjunction with CCIW and NCAA policies, and creative content creation.
REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP(S):
Reports to: Director of Athletic Communications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serve as primary communications contact for multiple sport programs at Elmhurst.
Generate press releases, event recaps, feature stories, and related written content.
Develop, monitor, and create content for Elmhurst Athletics social media accounts.
Produce publications, including media guides, game programs, etc.
Maintain accurate record of team through updating website and record books.
Assist in coordination of all home athletic events.
Other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL NOTATION:
Staff members must possess a commitment and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of Elmhurst University, the CCIW and the NCAA. Staff members must cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, the CCIW and/or Elmhurst University with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations. Any person who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or correction actions a set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repeated violations.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (temperatures varying from below 32 degrees to over 90 degrees) for periods of over one hour, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, etc., and involves heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and lift 50 pounds. Must be willing to nights and weekends, as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Sport Management, Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or New Media.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
Strong oral and written skills are required.
Full acceptance into an Elmhurst University graduate program is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in an intercollegiate athletic department.
Experience with forms of new media including, but not limited to, website management, social media, photography, videography, and production.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suites applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, After Effects, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, media, and student-athletes.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working with statistics programs such as NCAA LiveStats, Statcrew, Presto Sports, etc.
Knowledge of AP Style writing.
