The Chattanooga Mocs Athletics Department is hiring one full-time position for Assistant Director of Strategic Communications. This position serves as liaison between the Athletics Department and the media, NCAA, Southern Conference and general public.
This includes work in all aspects of Strategic Communications including desktop publishing and publication design, release writing, website maintenance, historical record keeping, game day statistical help, handling of requests from media representatives and fans for information on all aspects of the athletics program, including communication with respective student-athletes, coaches and administrators.
Primary responsibilities:
Serves as the primary media contact for assigned sports, and secondary contact for others as required
Establishes and maintains relationships with appropriate local, state and national media representatives to publicize all upcoming athletic department events that are relevant to assigned sports and reports on the events in a timely manner
Maintains up-to-date team and individual statistics for each assigned athletic program
Issues media credentials for assigned sports
Works to seek out, nominate and promote honors and awards for outstanding student-athletes, coaches and administrators
Works all home events that pertain to assigned sports; travels as required
Works home football, men's basketball and women's basketball, regardless if it is an assigned sport
Promotes UTC's brand across all avenues of social media
Maintains athletics website and historical data for assigned sports and special projects as assigned
Designs, writes and produces publications and press releases for assigned sports and special projects
Administers athletics events
Guides social media posts and social content planning for assigned sports and special projects within the athletics department
Handles publicity for assigned sports
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA, Southern Conference, University and departmental rules and regulations and abides by such
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong knowledge of social media best practices
Excellent computer skills, especially desktop publishing, Photoshop, InDesign, Statcrew and NCAA Genius Stats
Writing in journalistic style

Minimum Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a Journalism, Sport Management, Business, Public Relations, Communications; and minimum one-year full-time experience in college athletics communication office, public relations firm or other related field. A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in intercollegiate communications; and work as post-graduate assistant/intern, as well as undergraduate work in athletics communication are preferred.
