The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistantship at Millersville University is designed for two years of study, subject to satisfactory academic progress and maintaining a 3.0 GPA, at which point the student should have a completed master’s degree. The start date for this position is the fall semester of 2023.
The selected candidate candidates will receive a first-year stipend of $5,000 ($5,400 in the second year) and up to 24 credits of tuition waiver. Graduate assistants also receive unparalleled experience in an outstanding Division II institution and gain valuable skills needed to apply for entry-level full-time positions upon completion of the two-year position.
The graduate assistant is responsible for assisting the director of athletic communications with the publicity and promotion of Millersville’s 19 intercollegiate sports. Duties include serving as the primary media contact for several sports, writing and editing news releases for placement in local and regional media, assisting in the maintenance of the athletics website, weekly conference reporting, and nominations, coverage of home athletic events, use of statistical software, assisting with live video broadcast production, video editing and graphic design of social media graphics. The candidate also must be able to assist in maintaining the department’s social media efforts.
Effective writing and interpersonal skills are a must. Knowledge of Production Truck, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, NCAA LiveStats/PrestoStats statistical software, and video editing and photography skills are strongly encouraged.
The successful candidate must be a college graduate with a preferred degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field and prior experience in athletic communications. Applicants hired into this position are required to apply and be accepted into a master’s degree program at Millersville University and must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credits in the fall and spring semesters.
